The Cell Cycle in Development laboratory (Dr Yuu Kimata) at School of Life Science and Technology, ShanghaiTech University is seeking for qualified applicants for the post of Research
Associate. Kimata’s group is interested in understanding the molecular and cellular mechanisms by which cell division is integrated with cellular differentiation and tissue formation in multicellular organisms. The lab uses Drosophila melanogaster and the mouse intestinal organoid as in vivo model systems in combination with various methodologies from biochemistry, proteomics to bioinformatics. Successful candidates will have some laboratory experience in biomedical research and will demonstrate advanced written and oral English skills, excellent organisational and time management skills. A person with collaborative and positive attitudes will best suit this position.
Responsibilities:
The primary task of the Research Associate is to provide technical support to lab members to ensure efficiency and success in carrying out experiments and to enhance the overall productivity. After initial training provided by Dr Kimata, the Research Associate will perform a wide range of experiments including genetic analysis with Drosophila, preparations and confocal imaging of Drosophila and mammalian tissue samples, molecular cloning, western blotting, and cell culture. These tasks will provide opportunities for co-authorship of any resulting scientific papers. Upon demonstration of good experimental and time management skills, the opportunity to learn more elaborate experiments and lead an independent research project will be provided.
In addition to technical assistance, the Research Associate is expected to assist Dr Kimata and lab members with general running of the laboratory and administration work, which includes:
•organisation and record-keeping of communal stocks and reagents
•ordering lab consumables and equipment and monitoring laboratory expense
•maintaining high standard of organisation of the lab space
•assistance of Dr Kimata with University administrative work and teaching-related work
The laboratory focuses on the career development of the research associate and supports their career planning.
Required skills/qualifications:
1.The native-level of written and oral Chinese (Mandarin)
2.Excellent communication skills in written and oral English
3.Bachelor’s degree in biomedicine-related subjects
4.Excellent interpersonal skills and teamwork
5.Excellent organisational skills and time management skills
Desirable:
1.Experience in biomedical research. Research experiences in Drosophila genetics, mammalian cell culture, biochemistry, molecular biology, and bioinformatics will be advantageous.
2.Master’s degree or PhD in biomedicine-related subjects
3.Collaborative and cooperative attitude
4.strong sense of responsibility
